Bishop Fintan Monahan, the new bishop of Killaloe, visits Mount St Joseph Abbey to mark the close of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.

On Sunday last, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe we were delighted to welcome Bishop Fintan Monahan, the new bishop of Killaloe, to Mount St Joseph Abbey to mark the close of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. Bishop Fintan was the celebrant for the 10:30am Mass. It was an uplifting and inspiring celebration and a fitting close to the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The monastic community were joined by the students and staff of Cistercian College and the friends and neighbours of the monastery. The music was provided by the CCR College Schola and the Brendan and Cronan Cluster Choir.

At the beginning of the Mass the Abbot welcomed the Bishop and thanked him and Diocese for the honour and privilege of having a Door of Mercy or Holy Door at the Abbey during the Jubilee Year. At the end of the Mass, to mark the close of the Year of Mercy, the replica Holy Door which was presented to the monastic community by the members of the Music Ministry Together Summer School was taken in procession to the Chapel of St Cronan where it was installed and blessed. It will serve as a reminder to us of the Jubilee Year and the Holy Door of Mercy.

After last Sunday’s Mass for the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe which marked the Close of the Year of Mercy Bishop Fintan Monahan greeted all those present. Everyone was anxious to shake his hand and welcome the new bishop to the Diocese of Killaloe.

We were delighted to welcome Anne-Marie Whelan and her parents, Noreen and Tommy, to Mount St Joseph on Sunday. Anne-Marie is a member of the management team of the Music Ministry Together Summer School. For their course this August at Cistercian College, Music Ministry Together designed a replica Holy Door which was blessed at the beginning of the week and then used as a reminder of the Year of Mercy during their liturgies. At the end of the summer school they presented the replica Holy Door to the monastic community.

On Sunday, to mark the close of the Year of Mercy Anne-Marie carried the replica Holy Door in procession from the sanctuary to the Chapel of St Cronan where it was installed and blessed by Bishop Fintan Monahan. It will serve as a reminder to us of the Jubilee Year and the Holy Door of Mercy. Thanks for being with us Anne-Marie and thanks to MMT for the replica Holy Door!
